ACT's Heather Roy is talking about choice and vouchers, sounds like privitization. Appealing to the reactionary sentiments of disengaged parents National wants to create a new managerial level of bureaucracy to do some bean counting and make it look like they are doing something. Oh has anyone mentioned that public spending on education has been frozen if not cut over the last 10 years? This looks alot like the 4th season of The Wire.

Last year our holiday break was marked by the Gaza massacre, this year Haiti. The injustice is staggering. And before your right off the Haitian catastrophe as an act of god or nature, check the history. The remarkable people of Haiti have staged two of the greatest emancipatory acts of our collective history. From its inception through the slave revolution to the 1991 election of Aristide, Haitians have been bleed dry for their indomitable political will. This is as much a natural disaster as Hurricane Katrina. If you want some background check out Zizek's reveiw of Peter Hallward's book.

On the home front we get you started in proper fashion as nation wide demos are planned to protest the lack of a real living wage. Unite's Mike Treen will join us at 10:30 to talk about the paltry 25c increase in the minimum wage, Jon Key's raising of GST to 15% and the campaign for a 15$ minimum wage. FIRE MICHAEL LAWS

The 'Glen Beck' of New Zealand Michael Laws has done it again. Not content with the standard facist line of hate, bigotry, jingoism and neo-colonialism this angry white male has called for 'The Final Solution', sterilize the underclass. Check out the Post story at Stuff. This is intolerable and all NZers of conscious need to put a stop to it. That's why I'm calling for a letter campaign to Radio Live and Sunday Star Times to demand he resign.

This kind of open unabashed vile hatred has no place within a society of liberal principles of universality, equality and freedom. We should not only reject his ideas but reject the idea that we should even have this conversation. This has no place in the public discourse, would you like to hear someone debating whether rape should be legal, or sodomites be flogged. This is the level at which Laws is operating.

Particularly shameful in this case is the support of Radio Live for this 'man'. Trying to get some of that Jon Stewart edgyness, they claim to facilitate interesting ideas and debates. There is no debate to be had unless we wish to fundamentally undermine the core substance of democracy and subject the vulnerable to further maliciousness and debasement.

I urge you to write a sincere letter the good old fashioned way to the following:
